The National Museum has very important function in Prague. This is the principal museum institution in the Czech Republic, and inter alia this is the reason that Prague is one of the most important cultural centers in whole Europe. The museum has more different parts, however the main building has the same name; National Museum. The museum complex’s one part is the National Memorial on the Vitkov Hill, which is in the Old Town of Prague. This gives the place to the best part of the National Museum’s Monarchy exhibition series, the Sport in the Monarchy exhibition, which presents the most typical movement culture in the second part of the 19th century.

The exhibition is opened between 7 September 2012 and 5 May 2013 on the Vitkov Hill. This means, you don’t have too much time, so if you planned a holiday in Prague this spring, start the organization, because this exhibition could make more unforgettable the rest in the Czech Republic. Get closer to the history, but not on the boring, dry way, but know more about an exciting part of history, the sport. What was the sport fashion on the second part of the 19th century? Who were the best athletes of the age? What was the most popular sport? You could have the answers and more at the Sport in the Monarchy exhibition!

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is a wonderful city, as we know. It’s not just the capital, this is the biggest city in the country. The River Vltava separates the city, so it looks like the most beautiful cities in the world, like Budapest, London, Paris. Citizens call Prague the golden city. The reason of the name is in the era of Charles the IV. they covered the tower to the Castle of Prague with gold. The centre of the city is a member of UNESCO world heritage list since 1992.

There are several sightseeing experiences in Prague, but now let’s talk about one: the National Museum. This is the number one museum in the city. It was founded in 1818. The new neo renaissance stylish main building was built about the plans of Josef Schulz. The central “Panteon” building’s decorations was made between 1885 and 1890. The museum is at a dominant point of Wenceslas Square. The building’s front was damaged at the time of Spring of Prague, in 1968 because of the Soviet army’s shootings, and after that it was in danger because of the underground constructions in 1970. The whole building complex have never been reconstructed, so now it’s a little bit raunchy.

But why are we talking about the biggest museum of Prague? The answer is simple. The museum presents a wonderful exhibition-series to its visitors. The main topic is the lifestyle in the 19th century. One part of this is „The 19th century people in photos” exhibition. Photography, as a seemingly authentic depiction of reality, has been in existence for 185 years, which is a very short period of time in comparison with painting or graphics. Now we can see a person’s lifestyle between 1848 and 1918 in photos. There are photos about sport or cultural events, everyday moments or documentation of important events. Get to know an old age better.

The exhibition is available between 13 December 2012 and 9 June 2013 in the Prague’s National Museum’s new building.

Have a good time!

The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and The Dominoes. What is the similarity of these awesome blues and rock and roll bands? Most of the people may know the answer: Eric Clapton.

The bad guy, the God of the blues, the only musician who was inducted three times in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the guitarist, whose nickname is „slowhand”, starts his world wide concert tour in this year, 2013, to show their fans the psychedelic music, the blues, the sweaty concerts and the guilty joys.

Eric Clapton is a real veteran rocker. He was born in the United Kingdom in 1945. His life story is already from the start a strange one. His mother was pregnant when she was 16, and his father left them before Eric’s birth. He believed, his grandparents are his parents, and his mother is his sister. He found out the truth, when he was nine and his mother got married, moved to Canada and left her son. These things had very big influence to Eric’s whole life.

His interests to music and especially the blues, has started at his age 13, thankful for an acoustic guitar. He played in the Yardbirds between 1963 and 1965, in the John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers between 1965 and 1966, and after that, he joined in the Cream in 1966, but the group has broken up in 1968. Unfortunately one life haven’t got enough time to list the names of Eric Clapton’s bands before he has started his solo career. He is one of the bests guitar players of the World nowadays too, and he is better than most present musicians.

For those, who want to hear the most famous Clapton songs’ live version, like „Layla” or „Cocaine”, here is the last choice, the last stop of the talented musician’s concert tour, in Prague.
