Ice skating in PragueDuring winter there are several possibilities to spend your time in the capital of the Czech Republic. One of the most popular event in the city during the winter period is the Christmas market and the other outdoor activity ice skating.

In Prague there are several ice rinks all around the city when the weather gets chilly and we will write about the most visited and biggest ice rink in Prague. This ice rink in the city takes place at Ovocny trh which is a square located just right at Estates Theatre in the Old Town. It is one of the best programs for everyone from tourists to locals as well. The annual ice rink and the Christmas market together attract every year more and more people to the city.

If your are tired of sightseeing and you want to do some fun and you love speed, ice and skating then this is the perfect activity for you. The ice rink opens its gates this year from 6th December until 31st January next year. The ice rink is free for everyone during the whole time and you can also hire skates for 50 CZK. Every day the ice rink is open from 10 in the morning until 9.30 in the evening. The ice rink in Prague is held at Ovocny trh just behind the Estates Theatre, Old Town, Prague 1.

2015 IIHF World Championship

IceHockey World Championship PragueIn 2015 the IIHF World Championship will be held in the Czech Republic. The tournament will take place in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic and in Ostrava. Th event will be held at the O2 Arena in Prague and at Čez Arena in Ostrava.

The IIHF or International Ice Hockey Federation is an international, worldwide governing body of ice hockey and in-line hockey. The organisation is based in Switzerland in Zürich. The IIHF has 73 members including 52 full members Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, the United State, Mexico, North Korea, South Korea and so on. Most of the European countries are part of the federation and several other countries from all around the world are part of it too. The federation has 18 associate members and 2 affiliate members as well. The associate members either don’t participate fully in the international championships or do not have an international national body of ice hockey. The associate members of the federation are the following Argentina, Brazil, Macedonia, Malaysia, Oman, Portugal and so on.

The International Ice Hockey Federation manages international hockey tournaments and maintains the IIHF World Ranking as well. Although the IIHF organises international events and hockey tournaments the IIHF has only a little control of hockey in North America as they have their own international hockey federation the NHL with other words National Hockey League which is the highest organization there. The Hockey USA and the Hockey Canada has their own rule books. The IIHF was founded in May in 1908 in the capital city of France, in Paris. The International Ice Hockey Federation is responsible for the international hockey tournaments such as the world championships.

2015 IIHF World Championship in Czech Republic

Next year, in 2015 the IIHF World Championship will be held in the Czech Republic. The tournament will take place in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic and in Ostrava. Th event will be held at the O2 Arena in Prague and at Čez Arena in Ostrava. The capacity of the O2 Arena is around 17000 and the other arena the Čez can host around 10000 visitors. The first ice hockey match of the World Championship will be 1st May in 2015 and the last game of the tournament will be 17th May 2015 at 8.45 in the evening at O2 Arena in Prague. This year in the tournament Sweden, Canada, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Latvia, France, Germany, Austria are in the group A and Finland, Russia, the United States, Slovakia, Norway, Belarus, Slovenia and Denmark are in group B.

All matches in Group A will be played in Prague in the O2 Arena, while all matches in Group B will be played in CEZ Arena in Ostrava. Czech Beer Festival 2015

Beer Festival 2015The Czech Beer Festival is coming to Prague again, and in 2015 the festival will be arranged from May 7th until May 23rd. During these 17 days you will be able to gain thorough knowledge about the Czech beers, and you will be able to taste more than 100 different kinds of them.

The Beer Festival in 2015 will be arranged in the Letna Park, which is a bit outside the city center, but it is absolutely worth the ride. There is a small entrance fee to the festival, but once on the inside you can sit down at one of more than 4000 chairs in the area, you can listen to live music and of course taste the most famous, and the not so famous Czech beers.

17th Swing Music Festival in Prague

Grace KellyThe 17th Swing Music Festival takes place in the capital of the Czech Republic in the centre of Prague. The music festival attracts more people every year from all around the world and in this year the biggest star of the music festival will be Grace Kelly the 22 year old American saxophonist, singer, lyricist, band leader and composer.

She will open and perform the first night of the 17th Swing Music Festival this year. She is truly a unique musician. She started her musician career in an early age when she wrote her first song at the age of 7. Grace Kelly released her first album when she was only 12 years old and as a band leader she performed over 600 concerts all over the world. She was nominated and received multiple awards during her life such as ASCAP Composer Award, Boston Music Awards and so on.

At the Swing Music Festival after the performance of Grace Kelly & Quintet the Czech Bohemian Big Band will entertain the guests. The Bohemian Big Band is a classic big band including five saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones. It was formed in 1985 and it is mostly focused on swing music from the golden period. The second day of the festival will continue with the performances of Ondrej Havelka & Melody Markers who will focus on the swing music of the early thirties and forties. After them the festival will end with the performance of the Swing Quintet Praha and guest star Eva Pilarova.

The 17th Swing Music Festival will take place in Praha from 13th November until 14th November 2014. A two day ticket for the concert is 1300 Czech crowns.

Prague Christmas Market 2014

Praha - PragueIt is 2014 and in not so long the annual Christmas Markets will come to Prague again. This is a major tourist attractions and tens of thousands of people come to Prague before Christmas to do their pre-Christmas shopping, drink som hot wine and to eat traditional Czech food.

The two biggest Christmas markets in Prague at the one at the Old Town Square and the one  at Wenceslas Square. If you are doing your planning now and wondering when the Christmas markets in Prague will be open and available, then here comes the answer.

It is worth noticing that the January 11th date has not been totally confirmed, but the fact that the Christmas Markets will open at November 29th is a fact, so you can start planning your trip to Prague already and get ready for handicraft fair, lots of sausages, white bread, beer, hot wine and other cool stuff at the Prague Christmas markets in 2014.

Prague Proms

This is a classical music festival which will be going on from June 20th until July 20th. The event is arranged by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and there will be concerts held in some of the nicest buildings in Prague, for example in the Municipal House.

Bigman Festival

The Bigman festival is a tradition in Prague and it is arranged on July 4th and 5th in 2014. It is a mixture of a Terrain Triathlon and Long Distance Triathlon and if you are an action person with lots of muscles, this might be attractive to you.

Metallica concert

On July 8th it is time for the Metallica concert in Prague.

Folklore days

From July 24th till July 28th there will be folklore days in Prague. During these days there will be performances on open air stages on the Old Town Square and at the Wenceslas square.

The date for the Il Divo concert in Prague is October 3rd, 2014. The concert venue will be the traditional and popular O2 Arena, and the Il Divo guys should enter the stage some minutes after 20.00, hopefully.
